I discovered Lovettsville, Virginia, by chance while traveling from Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and the Brunswick Heritage Museum. This small town of 2,200 residents greeted me very warmly. After a long hike and exploring the surrounding area, I enjoyed the restaurant Andy’s in Lovettsville and the local coffee shop Back Street Brews Coffee & Tea House.
It was interesting to learn that Lovettsville was founded in the early 19th century by German immigrants who settled here in the 1730s and 1740s. Originally called Newtown, it was renamed Lovettsville in 1828 in honor of the Lovett family, who owned the land.

Today, Lovettsville is a small town with German heritage that still preserves some German traditions. Perhaps the most significant event is Lovettsville Oktoberfest, an annual festival featuring music, fairs, and German-style beer. It is usually held on September 26th – 28th. Judging by reviews, the event is vibrant and professionally organized, making it definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

The Brunswick Heritage Museum, located in Brunswick, Maryland, is dedicated to the region’s rich history, particularly its railroad heritage, as the railroad played a key role in the town’s development. The museum’s exhibits include artifacts, photographs, documents, and household items that illustrate how the railroad impacted residents’ daily lives in the 1950s.

Harpers Ferry National Historical Park is probably one of my favorite parks. Located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers in West Virginia, it offers a wide variety of activities. Renowned for its rich historical heritage, the park combines a 19th-century museum campus, picturesque natural landscapes, hiking and biking trails, and water activities.

River and Trail Outfitters of Knoxville, Maryland, was founded in 1972 by Lee & Eunsook Baihly, natives of Minnesota and Korea. Today, River & Trail Outfitters offers a wide range of outdoor activities on the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers, including whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, tubing, wine and beer tastings, bike rentals, guided hikes, and ziplining. Children can participate in summer camp and Scout programs, while groups can enjoy team-building activities, a rock climbing wall, and an airsoft field. Tent and RV campsites, cabin rentals, and long-term campsites are also available, making this location convenient for both day-long adventures and extended outdoor getaways.
If you’re looking for new bike routes near Lovettsville, consider Harpers Ferry. Numerous scenic bike trails are nearby, suitable for casual riders and more experienced cyclists. If you don’t have a bike, several bike rentals near Harpers Ferry have a wide selection of bikes, including electric bikes. You can also find new maps of safe bike routes there.

One of the most popular bike routes is the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath (C&O Canal Trail), an old canal converted into a bike and pedestrian trail. Particularly interesting is the route across the pedestrian bridge leading directly to the C&O Canal Trail, which offers beautiful views of the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers.

If you enjoy wine tours and tastings, visit Corcoran Vineyards & Cidery. This small family-run business combines a winery with a production facility that produces hard cider, fermented from apple juice without added sugar. In addition to cider, Corcoran produces various wines, including Port-style (fortified) and dessert wines. Tastings are typically held on Sundays and Saturdays from noon to 5 PM, but appointments are available on other days.
Budding Equestrians, LLC, an equestrian center in the picturesque Virginia countryside near Lovettsville, is a popular destination for horse enthusiasts. Its founder, Jen Simmers, grew up surrounded by horses, participating in 4-H programs, working on a farm, and lovingly raising Arabian horses. In 2020, she founded Budding Equestrians at Fernside Farm, realizing her dream of creating a space where people and horses can learn to understand each other.

Today, Budding Equestrians offers a wide range of services for beginners, professionals, and horse owners. A visit to Budding Equestrians is more than just a horseback riding lesson; it’s an authentic experience – a connection between human and horse, where care, attention, and professionalism create the foundation for trust and growth. The center’s atmosphere helps you overcome fears, develop a sense of balance, and learn to connect with your horse on a deep level. It’s a place of renewal and peace, especially for active children exploring the world. It’s a wonderful experience that instills a love of animals and supports a child’s development.
